On Never, Ever move a Cat

Never, ever move a cat.

You have to leave them where they’re at.

If they’re sprawled out on the bed –

Never move them as I said.

If they’re taking up the chair,

Well, never move a cat from there.

Even if they’re on the table,

Never move them though you’re able.

 

Cats are just such special creatures,

Let me tell you how to treat yours:

 

Only pet them when they want it.

Sing your cat a morning Sonnet.

Play with them until they’re tired.

Watch them like they’re SO admired.

Feed them though they may not eat it –

That’s the way a cat is treated.

 

And now that we are clear on that –

Just never, ever move a cat.

On Never Grow Up

On Thankfulness

I received so many happy birthday wishes yesterday that it was humbling:

Humbling because each one of you have impacted my life for the better, and humbling because I am so horrible at staying in touch.

I feel so grateful to each of you.

Make certain I have your current addresses so I can mail you an invitation to my funeral.  I am not planning on dying soon, so I may have to periodically update my address book.

But, regardless of when I pass, if each of you attend, I will feel that it will have mattered that I lived.

On Turning 50

I turned 50 today, December 8th.

And I happen to be reading in 2 Peter Chapter three, and what do you know – the 8th verse was one of my favorite all time verses:

“But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord, one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.”

In other words: Trust that you can be used with amazing impact even if you feel your time is short.  And trust that the promises of God are only perceived to be slow in coming.

So – pour everything into each day because God can do a lot with it, but also be patient and PERSEVERE.

There.  That is all the profundity I have at the ripe old age of 50.

On Delivering the Dead

After Christ’s suffering and resurrection 1 Peter relates that Christ went and preached to the dead – the souls that passed in the great flood.  The New Testament also speaks of being baptized for the dead.

Why is this not preached about more?  Hope after death if you miss the mark the first time?  Can mercy extend past the grave?

In “The Shimmering,” the protagonist is called upon to deliver the dead. Biblically speaking and per the above, that isn’t so crazy a concept, now – is it?

On Forgiveness

I have at times been given the grace to forgive.  And in so doing, I felt as if God would be proud of me.

But now I see differently.  It is those incidences where I have hurt someone else and deeply regretted it and needed so dearly to have them forgive me that are of greater value.

This is because those incidences sucked any sense of “eliteness” out of my soul.  I, like those who have wronged me, am equally capable of baseness and equally capable of godliness.

It is my failings and subsequent hope for renewal that remind me to see in any “wrongdoers” the glimmer of divinity despite dark deeds.

It is one such moment of pivotal recognition that changes everything in “The Shimmering.”
